In collaboration with an organization renowned for supporting science research, education, and trailblazing expeditions around the world, this unique voyage will feature special guests from The Explorers Club to share onboard lectures, exploration stories, and scientific research throughout your journey.
Set off on an ultimate quest, the promise of unprecedented encounters in the heart of the mysterious Weddell Sea, the kingdom of ice and polar legends. Endless ice floe, majestic tabular icebergs and immaculate silence make up the landscapes of this pristine world. Emperor penguins live here, these guardians of Antarctica that we see only at the boundaries of these highest latitudes. Alongside them, Adelie penguins liven up the ice floe. During your journey aboard Le Commandant Charcot, a strikingly elegant ship capable of navigating the planet’s most extreme environments, the echoes of the great expeditions still resonate, from Shackleton to the modern explorers, while the ice unveils all its many nuances. A unique experience that will plunge you into the heart of a universe unlike any other.
- Through PONANT's alliance with The Explorers Club, this voyage will feature an exciting onboard lecture series hosted by an esteemed member of The Explorers Club. Enjoy tales of exploration, learn about scientific research, and attend insightful talks, all providing deeper context for your surroundings and journey.
- An Explorers Club Science Grantee will also be aboard Le Commandant Charcot, utilizing its dedicated laboratories and offering firsthand insights of ongoing research.
- Explore the nearly inaccessible Weddell Sea aboard Le Commandant Charcot and search for emperor penguins in surreal polar landscapes.
- Unforgettable encounters with unique wildlife (whales, orcas, seals, penguins and other seabirds) in spectacular landscapes (ice floes, glaciers, icebergs).
- Activities: outings and shore visits in a rubber dinghy with a team including naturalist guides; kayaking; polar hiking on foot or snowshoes; polar plunge without a wetsuit.

With its hybrid propulsion combining liquefied natural gas (LNG) and electric generators, Le Commandant-Charcot has been designed to minimise the environmental impact of travel to the furthest latitudes.
The decoration of the ship, designed by two internationally renowned design and architecture firms - the studio of Jean-Philippe Nuel and Wilmotte & Associés - is designed to be in harmony with the environment. The approach is contemporary with the desire to create a warm and elegant setting; stone, wood and leather recall the natural environment in which the ship is sailing.
Equipped with just 135 staterooms including 31 suites with balconies and outside views, Le Commandant-Charcot welcomes you in an intimate and refined atmosphere.
