The ultimate Greenland experience – a unique, epic adventure into Northeast Greenland National Park, the world’s largest national park, and Scoresbysund, the longest fjord system on Earth.

This mighty 12 expedition gives you the best of both worlds, taking in two of the world’s most remote destinations in one epic adventure. Explore the mythical Scoresbysund fjord system before pushing on into Greenland’s wild heart – Northeast Greenland National Park – a vast protected area only a lucky few have the privilege to experience first-hand.

Natural pantheons of sublime scenery, both lands are rich with geological wonder and Arctic wildlife, including polar bears, reindeer, musk oxen, and narwhals.

Did you know? Northeast Greenland National Park is so vast it covers more than a quarter of Greenland, the largest island on Earth. Unbelievably, it is larger than 166 of the planet’s 195 countries!

This adventure is our longest expedition ever.

You’ll need every second of it to explore all Scoresbysund and Northeast Greenland National Park have to offer.

Nature unlimited.

Marvel at the natural world on a completely new scale during this fortnight of exploration in Greenland, taking in two of the most significant environments on the planet: Scoresbysund and Northeast Greenland National Park.

First, we explore Scoresbysund, a labyrinthine network of deep-cut fjords carved into the east coast of Greenland, known for its still waters littered with idiosyncratically sculpted icebergs.

Next, we set a course for Northeast Greenland National Park – the road even less travelled, a badge of honour for true wilderness pioneers. Even fewer adventurers have been lucky enough to experience this perspective-defying crucible of glacier-crowned valleys and art-gallery icebergs, reflected in the mirrorlike waters of its fjords.

No explorer forgets the first time they sailed into Kong Oscar Fjord, the gateway to the national park, stretching out for 16 miles at its widest point, strewn with icebergs and floes of infinite variety. Glacier tongues push dramatically down to the shoreline of Kaiser Franz Joseph Fjord, presided over by the imposing Teufelsschloss (The Devil's Castle), a fiendishly red peak. This is wilderness at its most atmospheric.

At all moments, keep a lookout for Greenland’s iconic wildlife – polar bears, musk oxen, narwhals, Arctic foxes, and more – gracing the shores and waters. Wildlife encounters are more common within the protected lands of the national park.

Our longest expedition ever, this is the choice for wilderness pioneers and adventurers.

Day 1 Keflavik

Meet other guests and Secret Atlas rep at the pre-arranged meeting point in Keflavik Airport, Iceland, before going through security together and boarding our private charter plane to Nerlerit Inaat Airport (Constable Point), Greenland.

From the airport, we will take a short hike to the shore and board Zodiac boats to take us to our expedition ship.

Scoresbysund

Explore Scoresbysund, touring steep-sided Ofjord and landing on the Bear Islands for panoramic views of this scenic stretch of the fjord system.

Land on Sydkap to discover Thule remains and a hunters’ cabin, gaining a dramatic perspective on the surrounding icebergs.

Northeast Greenland National Park

Sail into Kong Oscar Fjord, entering Northeast Greenland National Park.

Land at Antarctic Havn, hearing the stories of Erik the Red and the Norwegian governor who had his residence here in the 1930s, and hiking to an atmospheric cabin, half-submerged by an avalanche.

Stop at Holm Bugt, with its sandy beach, trapper cabin, and Thule remains – we might even spot some lemmings!

Segelsällskapet Fjord is a hugely geologically rich area, with alternating layers of dolomite and limestone jutting attractively out of the earth.

Kejser Franz Josephs Fjord & Blomsterbugt

Continue the adventure in the wondrous Kejser Franz Josephs Fjord, taking in the island of Ymer Ø and the extraordinarily dramatic Teufelsschloss (Devil’s Castle) peak.

Blomsterbugt (Flowers Bay in Danish) is an attractive spot to absorb the colours of the surrounding plainland, spot divers, and meet the local population of Arctic hares. But there’s a darker side to this bay the Norwegians called Vargbukta (or Wolf Bay).

At the end of Kejser Franz Josephs Fjord, land on Kapp Ovibos, a sandy bay known for its wildflowers.

Storefjord

Head back to Scoresbysund via Storefjord, an abandoned Norwegian hunting, meteorological, and radio station, and Raffles Ø, a small uninhabited island.

Ittoqqortoormiit

Sail to Ittoqqortoormiit, one of the remotest towns on the planet, with an idiosyncratic culture and way of life.

Day 12 Keflavik

Fly back to Keflavik on a charter plane, enjoying dinner and a night in a hotel before returning home.
