Jewels of England’s Southern Shores
Board Le Dumont-d’Urville for a journey along the southern coast of England. On this all-new 8-day cruise, you will discover the melancholy beauty of nature in these parts, from wild creeks to long sand or pebble beaches, lush hills, charming fishing villages and steep cliffs sculpted by the wind and sea.
Departing from London, your first port of call will be Dover, famous for its white limestone cliffs. Then the Isle of Wight will reveal its picture-postcard landscapes, sometimes bathing in the sun’s rays and at other times shrouded in mist. Queen Victoria used to holiday on this island, a great deal of which is designated as an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.
Your ship will then drop anchor at the Isles of Scilly, a strange, small archipelago where long fine-sand beaches run alongside lush, green meadows, overlooked by the ruins of old castles sitting imposingly on the hilltops.
Then you will make your way to Dartmouth, a charming town tucked away in the heart of the stunning décor formed by the mouth of the Dart. You will discover its old pastel-coloured fishermen’s houses and some half-timbered buildings. Then you will visit Poole, a town renowned for its large natural harbour.
